On July 4, 1973, the Simon family founded NOMIS (Simon spelled backwards) Golf Course - a 9-hole course just outside of Johnstown. In 1994, the sons of Charles Simon followed their dream of enlarging the course and property into an 18-hole development. They enlisted Barry Serafin to help design and develop the course, and Brian Fracker with Heartland Bank to assist with financing.

Between backpacks and binders, calculators and crayons, and even scissors and pencil sharpeners, most school supply lists seem endless and those lists like it or not, signify that the school year is upon us. No matter how often you tell yourself that school can’t really be starting so soon, the reality is that many local schools are starting this year on August 12. Are you ready?

Many professional athletes, like Crew SC Homegrown Player Matt Lampson, lend their names to charity foundations and events. His LampStrong Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit was founded in 2014 with the defined mission “to provide difference-making financial, emotional and motivational support to cancer patients and families in all stages of cancer treatment and recovery and to fund proven cancer researchers.” Matt has a very good reason to want to support cancer patients. Festivals can be found most summer weekends in Columbus – some that feature music (think Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival), a foreign land (think Columbus Italian Festival or Dublin Irish Festival), and there’s even one that features a vegetable (Reynoldsburg’s Tomato Festival) and a flower (Pickerington Violet Festival). On July 4, 1776, our founding fathers claimed independence from Great Britain and democracy was born in this great land.
