Hit the Links this Summer and take a Swing at Kyber Run

Sunday, July 26, 2015/Categories: Community, Customer Stories

On July 4, 1973, the Simon family founded NOMIS (Simon spelled backwards) Golf Course - a 9-hole course just outside of Johnstown. In 1994, the sons of Charles Simon followed their dream of enlarging the course and property into an 18-hole development. They enlisted Barry Serafin to help design and develop the course, and Brian Fracker with Heartland Bank to assist with financing.

On July 4, 1999, that dream became Kyber Run Golf Course, with rolling terrain, uniquely designed holes, and 17 bodies of water spread out on 170 acres. Kyber Run is a challenge for players with all different skill levels, boasting four different sets of tee areas.

Kyber Run is still owned by the Simon family today. One of the owners, Dave Simon, stated, “We hope that golf will someday make a comeback, especially with more junior golfers. We offer them special rates to try to encourage them to come out and play.” Ben Tigner, Director of Golf at Kyber Run, added, “Kids remember where they played and return when they become adults.”

This past weekend, Kyber held their largest tournament to date hosted by Westerville Alumni & Friends. This tournament has helped Recreation Unlimited assist many needy children with over $25,000 in donations every year.

Heartland Bank was instrumental in making the Simon family’s dream a reality. We would like to help you make your dreams come true. Call Heartland today “fore” an appointment with one of our local community banking experts and we’ll help you get the “ball” rolling. “Swing” into Heartland, the bank that never needs a “mulligan”!

About Westerville Alumni & Friends Golf Outing (WAFGO):

2015 is the 23rd year for the Westerville Alumni & Friends Golf Outing. It started as a class reunion after which they donated $300 to Recreation Unlimited. The late Jimmy Crum was their spokesperson until he passed away in 2009.  Crum was known as the "Dean of Central Ohio sportscasters," the "voice of the basketball Buckeyes" (1959-1979), and from 1968-1980, with Phil Samp, as the "radio voice of the Cincinnati Bengals.”  Annually, they have an honoree that is privileged to be asked to wear the Crum Style Plaid Jacket at the event. This year it was Mike Rosati, owner of Rosati Windows!
