Celebrating Interns (HIP) and New Bankers (BIT)

Wednesday, July 5, 2023/Categories: Home Page Story

Interns are an opportunity…to showcase the best part of a company and know that the interns will tell their network everything! Sharing experiences, while learning about a field, is the expectation of an intern, and companies bank on the fact that a good impression will go a long way.

Heartland Bank banks on this too and is committed to introducing these impressionable candidates to the banking industry and all that it has to offer. On National Intern Appreciation Day (July 27th) and all throughout the year, Heartland is engaged, dedicated and compelled to boost its efforts to bring career awareness to the banking field through strong, deliberate outreach.

With very active social media, Heartland’s goal has been to showcase the culture and environment of a banking career. Spotlighting a family culture and active engagement committee, the bank is proud to share photos of associate events and activities that encourage team participation and focus on work/life balance.

Heartland’s website is an additional tool that hopefully is utilized as prospective interns search for summer/winter break possibilities and off-campus opportunities. Careful thought and purposeful planning were put into two programs that Heartland offers to prospective interns and high school grads, the Heartland Internship Program (HIP) and the Banker in Training program (BIT). The careers website page links to details for each of these programs and welcomes prospective bankers to take a look around at what is offered.

“Bankers In Training (BIT) and the Heartland Internship Program (HIP) were developed as opportunities for motivated students to grow their skills and to find their career path. These programs are critical talent strategies for our continued organizational growth and tie to our mission statement around support of individuals in our communities,” said Sarah Ketty, SVP, director of people portfolio.

The internship program (HIP) is a 10-week program that includes a paid banking industry internship and opportunities to build networks, enhance professional development, engage in the community and explore Heartland as a place to thrive as a young professional. Resume building and the possibility for future employment are also possible outcomes. A final presentation will be required, but ultimately offers the chance to receive valuable feedback from leaders of the organization while gaining real-world experience.

Heartland’s Banker in Training program is specifically designed for high school graduates that could be on the college track but might just be looking to enter the workforce. This paid position provides on-the-job training to develop the skills and experience that banking would require. As an entry-level position with the potential for permanent employment, candidates have the chance to build confidence while exploring their interests. Applications are closed for 2023 but will be accepted again in 2024.

It’s never too late to start checking us out and have us on your radar for next year. Search the website for all the Heartland information that undoubtedly will have you taking a second look for 2024!
