If you ask any Human Resources professional what qualities they look for in new employees, they’ll likely say things like self-motivated and hard working. People that can be adaptable and decisive, and how important it is for potential employees to be effective leaders and team players probably are also on the list. They want people that are honest, ethical, polite, and disciplined. The list could go on.
Starting this month we’re giving you an opportunity to get to know some of our employees and will be featuring a new team member every month. As you get to know our employees through our monthly website features, you’ll get to know more about Heartland and the core values that the Bank holds dear. The Bank’s mission statement is as follows – It is Heartland Bank’s mission to provide the best personalized financial services at competitive prices for the economic growth and well-being of individuals and businesses within our communities. Since we believe this can only be accomplished through “well-trained, caring employees with unquestionable integrity, who practice sound and innovative banking principles” we look forward to introducing you to the people that uphold the promise of that mission with these successful characteristics.
One of those people is Senior V.P., Controller, Carrie Almendinger. Carrie got her start at Heartland Bank in 1996 as a loan processor at the Johnstown branch. That first week as a Heartland Banker, the entire core data processing system underwent a major conversion. It was the beginning of a great relationship!
Carrie's job includes many 'back of the house' responsibilities including financial analysis, regulatory reports, financial statements, managing risk such as interest rate and liquidity, budgets and overseeing many projects in the accounting department. She’s also a respected member of the Senior Management Team and someone that our CFO, George Smith, considers to be a vital part of his department.
"Through her excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and a teamwork attitude, much of our success can be directly attributed to her contributions over the last 17 years," according to G. Scott McComb, Chairman, President and CEO of Heartland Bank.
She has volunteered in many different capacities during her tenure at the bank, including most recently as the coordinator of the Financial Literacy training Program at Johnstown-Monroe's Searfoss Elementary School. In 2012, Carrie also provided financial literacy training at the NAACP Back to School-Stay in School event.
The Quality & Excellence Award has been a tradition at Heartland Bank since 1994, and many of our employees proudly wear the pin each day that signifies this honor. Employees that have been given this award were chosen based on excellent customer service, being an example of a team player, helping other employees and exceeding the expectations of their job duties and responsibilities. Carrie Almendinger was awarded her pin in October 1996.
When she is not working at Heartland Bank, you can find Carrie and her family (husband Erich and three children) supporting the Johnstown High School Big Red Band and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. She's an active member of the Presbyterian church of Johnstown and is a parent volunteer for the JHS Band Boosters.
As Carrie said recently, "I have been blessed during my 17 years at Heartland Bank and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities that have been presented to me. I am most proud of the Heartland Team and to work among and have earned the trust and respect of some of the most hard working, intelligent and honorable people I know."
