This Month's Employee Spotlight - Tanya Bennett

Monday, May 26, 2014/Categories: Employee Spotlight

Tanya Bennett This month’s Employee Spotlight features the Johnstown branch office Assistant Manager, Tanya Bennett. The Westerville native began her career with Heartland Bank in May of 2003 as a Customer Service Representative (teller) and works hard every day to make sure her clients get the customer service they deserve.

As an assistant manager, Tanya’s main responsibilities are opening and closing of all accounts and bringing in new business to the bank. “I am proud to be the ‘Go to Gal’ in the busy Johnstown office,” she said. And, according to Scott McComb, President, CEO of Heartland Bank, “Tanya provides a positive leadership and attitude on a daily basis that is contagious. The clients and staff alike love her wit, energy and compassion for the bank and her community.”

The Quality and Excellence Award has been a tradition at Heartland Bank since 1994 and many of our employees proudly wear the pin each day that signifies this honor. Employees that have been given this award were chosen based on excellent customer service, being an example of a team player, helping other employees and exceeding the expectations of their job duties and responsibilities. Tanya was proud to be presented with the Quality and Excellence pin in May of 2004. To her, it means “providing the best service to the best of my ability to our clients, non-clients and co-workers. I am proud to wear my pin every day.”

In the spring of 2013, in response to the Johnstown Monroe School District’s preparation for curriculum alignment with the newly adopted State of Ohio Common Core Standards for Social Studies, Tanya and Branch Manager Randy Kelly were instrumental in developing financial literacy curriculum for fourth graders at Johnstown’s Searfoss Elementary School. They taught five sessions explaining basic financial vocabulary terms, how to distinguish a want from a need, and how to plan and implement a basic budget. They also discussed currency and its production, as well as career opportunities within the banking environment. While Randy and Tanya taught one class at Searfoss last year, this spring found four different bank employees teaching a total of seven classes of fourth graders.

With family roots in the Croton area (the birthplace of Heartland Bank), Tanya has certainly embraced the Licking County community. She’s a proud mom of an eight year old daughter who indulges her mother’s interest in crafting. Last Christmas, they made 38 Mason jar snow globes as gifts for family and friends. In her spare time, she volunteers at the Hartford Fair and Johnstown Fireman’s Festival and enjoys spending time in her daughter’s class at Centerburg Elementary School.

Tanya is a proud Heartland Bank employee. “People don’t realize that a community bank like Heartland has the same products and services as a big bank, AND technological advances, too. I believe that clients appreciate the personal home-town care that we provide here at the bank. They come in and share their lives with us and want to know what’s happening in our lives. One day, I had a customer come in and give me a hug. She told me there’s no other business or bank that she visits where employees hug you and greet you by name.”

They say that “Happiness is an unexpected hug” and Tanya Bennett certainly helps make Heartland Bank a happier place to both work and bank. Stop in and see Tanya at our Johnstown office today! She’ll greet you with a smile and a hug and show you why Heartland Bank’s motto is “Where Banking Feels Good”!
