Rise to the occasion at the 2018 Summer Jam West Music & Arts Festival

Monday, July 9, 2018/Categories: Community

The fifth annual Summer Jam West Music & Arts Festival will take place from 11 AM – 7 PM this Saturday, July 14, at Westgate Park (455 S. Westgate Ave., Columbus, OH). The theme for this year’s festival is Hilltop Rising with the featured work of public, permanent art to be “Phoenix Rising” by Andrew Lundberg. The materials chosen for the Phoenix were very intentional as was its home in the in the Hilltop – differing from several of the past years when the sculpture was placed in the park. The sculpture will be made from a mixture of raw metals in remembrance of the Delphi GM plant that was driving the economy in the Hilltop years ago. Hollywood Casinos is a close neighbor to the highest point in the hilltop, thus a perfect home for the “Phoenix Rising” and a way to honor the renewed commitment to the community by Hollywood Casinos as they brought nearly 1000 jobs to the area and gladly contributed to the Phoenix project.

While their commitment is “to bringing music and permanent, public art to the Hilltop,” highlights for this year’s festival also includes five local bands, six food trucks with a variety of menus, 16 local artists, 26 craft artisans and six professional chalking artists. Additionally, according to their website, “…we wish to use local, buy local and promote local.” When enjoying the festival, you can feel confident that any dollars you spend are staying local, supporting local and enhancing local.

Be sure to check out the Kids Art Zone which will feature Paint a Tee, Sidewalk Chalk, Parrotdise, Face Painting, Balloon Twisting, Dog Cooling, HPC Urban Homesteading activities, Police/Fire Departments Equine and K9 Units, Photo Op Props and the Monarch Tent. Many activities are all day offerings, but some are only open from 11 AM to 4 PM. Check out the specifics on the Summer Jam West website.

Five local bands will be playing a variety of music on the Heartland Bank Stage:

  • The Devil Doves – 11:00 AM to Noon
  • Mojo Theory – 12:30 to 1:30 PM
  • Zoo Trippin’ – 2 to 3 PM
  • Honey and Blue – 3:30 to 5 PM
  • Antioch – 5:30 to 7 PM

Heartland Bank would like to help you rise to financial fitness and support local! Stop in the Wilson Road office and ask for Manager Peggy Frebault or Assistant Manager Kelli Hetrick-Mashburn. We’ll see you this weekend at Summer Jam at Westgate Park!
