On February 5th, Heartland Bank held an Economic Power Breakfast at its Whitehall location and a 2019 Economic Forum luncheon at the Grand Event Center at Grandview Yard. Two events, back-to-back, provided for nearly five hours of intense market analysis with a bit of discussion on building rural prosperity.
Ryan Detrick, CMT, VP and Market Strategist for LPL Financial, and David L. Hall, State Director for USDA Ohio Rural Development, were invited to provide their expertise, insights and analytical skills relating to the 2019 financial frontier. David spoke to the Power Breakfast attendees, offering his thoughts on why small businesses in rural areas face unique challenges that often impede their ability to secure investments from commercial lenders. He shared the underlying reality that rural prosperity is dependent on access to capital. David discussed resources for lenders for risk reduction associated with lending to rural small businesses.
Ryan spoke to both groups targeting trade activity, fiscal policy, economic forecasts, recession possibilities, rates, yield curves, markets and planning – specifically that planning is everything! He shared LPL Research’s economic forecasts and highlighted top themes for investor awareness in 2019 and beyond. Attendees were privy to Ryan’s thoughts on emerging and developing market trends. In particular, he left visitors with an economic overview presented with levity and a small amount of his personal touch - reminding the crowd to “enjoy the moment” as he shared a selfie from a game with his kids.
Both events were a huge success, and Heartland was happy to welcome so many visitors to share in extending economic knowledge and market outlooks. Many Heartland associates were also able to join the sessions allowing these gentlemen’s insights to reach even more interested bankers.
