Employee Spotlight on Kelly Law

Sunday, July 9, 2017/Categories: Employee Spotlight

Photo of Kelly Law and FamilyThis month’s Employee Spotlight features another effective leader and respected colleague of the Heartland Bank team, our VP, Commercial Relationship Manager at our Stygler Road office, Kelly Law. He began his career at Heartland in October of 2012.  A proud graduate of Capital University with a MBA, he works hard as an advisor for local businesses with respect to their commercial financial needs. Kelly stated, “I took over a portfolio from Bobbie Burba, the ‘church lady’ when she retired from Heartland and originally much of my portfolio was Churches and Not for Profit Organizations. Since that time my portfolio has diversified, and although I still have many Churches and Not for Profits in my portfolio, I now have several Craft Brewers, Distillers, and Manufacturing Companies.”

As a valued member of the Commercial Lending Department, Kelly spends his work days trying to promote the growth and development of his portfolio through calling efforts, community involvement and related activities. “I continue to contribute to the local community.  My role gives me an opportunity to serve on Boards, be involved in community events and make a difference in the quality of life in those communities,” said Kelly.

Heartland Bank Chairman, President and CEO Scott McComb said “Kelly is able to establish immediate rapport with his clients and friends alike. He is a very good listener and takes that ability to the next level in clients experience at Heartland.”

Kelly is a member of the Board for the Mohun Sisters of the Dominican of Peace and has served on the nominating and governance committee for the past six years.  He is also the Vice Chair of the Gahanna Parks and Recreation Foundation and serves on their Finance committee. Kelly has served the past seven years as a member of the Gahanna Lincoln High School Finance committee which supports the Treasurer of Gahanna Schools.  He has been the Treasurer for the Creekside District Alliance in Gahanna for the past two months.

Additionally, Kelly was proud to be presented with the Quality and Excellence pin in April of 2014. The Quality and Excellence Award has been a tradition at Heartland Bank since 1994 and many of our employees proudly wear the pin each day to signify this honor. Employees that have been given this award were chosen based on excellent customer service, being an example of a team player, helping other employees and exceeding the expectations of their job duties and responsibilities. To him it means: “Understanding both internal and external customer needs and meeting or exceeding their expectations. Most customers just want to be treated fairly, with respect, and feel like you believe they are important. If you understand your customer providing quality and excellence is easier. ”

Relationships are always a focus for Kelly. This is what enables him to offer strong and knowledgeable guidance to his clients. Outside of the office, in his spare time, he spends as much time with his three daughters and their families as possible. He also enjoys playing golf, running between 10 and 15 miles a week and being a spectator of most sports.

“We provide many valuable services beyond our banking products and services. We also provide resources, experience, and support that go beyond loans and deposits,” said Kelly.  It is bankers like Kelly Law that allow Heartland Bank to give such great customer service day in and day out.
