Presented by the Gahanna Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival (CBJF) takes place from Friday, June 15th through Sunday, June 17th in the Creekside Park and Plaza area (117 Mill Street) of Gahanna, Ohio. 2018 marks the 20th Anniversary year for this local festival which began as a way to applaud the completion of Creekside Park, showcase the bustling city of Gahanna and attract visitors from all over Central Ohio.
The original half-day event has evolved into a three-day musical extravaganza with 5 stages, food of all sorts, amusement rides, organized activities and local artisans. Heartland Bank helped to finance one of those original stages by trading a 10-year sponsorship for the financing of the purchase of the stage.
After building the first Corporate Center in Gahanna, Tiney and Scott McComb (Heartland Bank founder and current Heartland President & CEO) became committed to “working hard and playing harder.” Scott continues that tradition even today, and fondly admits, “It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure. So, we tried to make it that way on the weekends as well with community events and our involvement.” Thus, contributing volunteers each year along with the stage financing, Heartland has become a very prominent presence at the CBJF.
As you plan your visit to the Creek, be sure to visit on Friday to hear David Sanborn on the Heartland Jazz Stage from 9 PM to 10:30 PM. Well-known for his musical magic on the alto sax, he has won six Grammy Awards and released twenty-four albums, toured with notables like Stevie Wonder and David Bowie, and also played with the Rolling Stones.
It’s not all about the music though. Amusement rides, Buskers Bayou, Giant Eagle Family Fun Zone, Musical Discovery Zone Stage, paddle-boats, shopping, and the Turtle Lady provide entertainment for all ages.
If you want to know more about the music, visit their website at creeksidebluesandjazz.com for a daily schedule of all the performances on the four main stages, biographies on the bands and musicians, explanation of all the activities, ticket information, food/beverage/retail vendor lists and much more!
A variety of ticket packages are available online, along with tickets for sale at the gate. Individual tickets for Friday and Sunday are $7; Saturday $10; and military, (active or retired with military ID) plus a guest, and children under 12 are free.
After the music of the weekend concludes, be sure to check out Heartland Bank and what we have to offer in the banking world…home mortgages, financial planning, checking/savings accounts and much more! Best of all, you might run into several of the volunteers from the festival on your visit to Heartland Bank. Remember, when you think of banking, Heartland can help you with all-that-jazz!
