Sunday, May 10, 2015/Categories: Employee Spotlight

Shirley SpellmanThis month’s employee spotlight features Grove City Branch Manager, Vice President Shirley Spellman. After studying Secondary Education at The Ohio State University, she’s spent 30+ years in the banking industry and has been a valued Heartland Bank employee since 2003. Her first job at Heartland was as the Gahanna Branch Manager, where she enjoyed the opportunity to meet and form close working relationships with other department employees housed at the corporate office.

In her sixth year as the branch manager at Grove City, Shirley said, “it is my primary responsibility to form and develop a staff that provides superior customer service while growing the bank and protecting its assets. According to President Scott McComb, "I recruited Shirley to come to Heartland because of her reputation, banking, and people skills. She has helped truly define by example how we want our institution and people to be known for in the communities we serve."

Shirley SpellmanThe Quality and Excellence Award has been a tradition at Heartland Bank since 1994 and many of our employees proudly wear the pin each day that signifies this honor. Employees that have been given this award were chosen based on excellent customer service, being an example of a team player, helping other employees and exceeding the expectations of their job duties and responsibilities. Shirley was proud to be presented with the Quality and Excellence pin in November of 2003. To her, the pin is a “reminder each and every day that one of the things I most admire about Heartland Bank is that we strive for all employees in all departments to go the extra mile in providing ultimate customer service.” In addition, the Bank honored Shirley with the prestigious Philanthropic Award in 2013, presented annually to an employee, Director or Ambassador, for service to the communities in which they work.

Shirley is a treasured member of the Grove City community. She’s served in many leadership positions for the Grove City Noon Lions Club, at both the local and district levels. As the past Chairman and current Parliamentarian for ECOT (Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow), she shared the pride she felt while watching “the largest high school graduating class in the nation walk across the stage of the Schottenstein Center.” In her spare time, she also serves as Vice President of Finance for the Grove City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Shirley and her husband, Chuck, enjoy time spent with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. “We enjoy backyard family gatherings, as well as beach and/or golf vacations. One of our favorite vacation spots, experienced often with family members, is Fairfield Glade in Tennessee. We call this our ‘Golf Mecca’ because the very friendly golf courses allow us some very good scores!”

According to Shirley, “A little known fact about Heartland Bank might be that most employees feel that they are as much a part of Heartland Bank’s family as they are bank employees.” What a family it is! Thanks to Shirley and ALL our employees for working so hard to keep integrity and honesty at the forefront!
