19th Heartland Bank Charity Golf Classic

Sunday, September 4, 2016/Categories: Community, Heartland Bank

What started out as an effort to help a few local children’s charities in 1996 has blossomed into a full-fledged annual fundraising event that has been gaining momentum in each of the last 18 years. Since that first golf outing in 1996, when the Bank made a small donation to the Licking County 4H Horse Council to last year when six local charities selected by the Bank collected a total of $30,000, Heartland has made benevolent donations of almost $375,000. Former recipients of funds from the Charity Golf Classic include Big Brother & Sisters of Central Ohio, Ronald McDonald House, March of Dimes, the Buckeye Ranch Foundation and Junior Achievement, among many others.

This year’s sold out 19th annual Heartland Bank Charity Golf Classic "tees off" Monday, September 12th at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City. If you're interested in supporting the event, there is still time to contact us about available sponsorship opportunities. We’re proud to honor the following organizations in 2016

CD102.5 for the Kids

The CD102.5 for the Kids charity was formed in 1993 and designed as an avenue for WWCD to be able to better utilize the power of the airways to support local charities that are committed to helping children and families in need throughout central Ohio.

Since 1992, a 48 hour DJ marathon (called the Andyman-a-thon after the late Andy Davis, a popular 102.5 DJ) has supported the station’s “For the Kids” charity. DJs encourage listeners to call the on-air studio to request songs to be played for a donation. In addition to those donations, an eBay auction offers merchandise for sale that’s been donated from the station’s advertisers and record companies. Every year, CD102.5 for the Kids raises thousands of dollars for various beneficiaries, including but not limited to: Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Homeless Families Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House and the Childhood League of Columbus.

Lifetown

LifeTown is a one-of-a-kind educational village that provides a safe, nurturing environment where children have the opportunity to learn the essential life and job readiness skills they need to become independent, productive members of the community. The village includes a bank, library, park, store, medical offices, a pet place, movie theater, beauty salon and art workshop. These learning environments allow a child to experiment with realistic situations in realistic environments but mitigate and control social and safety risks so that specific lessons can be achieved. LifeTown’s primary goal is to educate and empower its students to live independently as members of the community at large.

Masonic Learning Centers for Children with Dyslexia

Millions of school children with dyslexia endure frustration and demoralization on a daily basis as they struggle to acquire skills that many of us take for granted. Since 1994, the Scottish Rite Masons, Northern Jurisdiction, have been national leaders in the effort to help children and their families overcome the painful obstacles of dyslexia.

The Center offers free one-on-one tutoring to children with dyslexia as well as free training for individuals who are interested in becoming a tutor for these children. The positive impact of early intervention on the lives of these children and their families is enormous. Children are tutored one-on-one twice a week after regular school hours. This allows for the curriculum to be tailored to each individual child as necessary, and progress is made in small, readily quantifiable steps.

For the children, the Center provides them with the skills they need to overcome the effects of dyslexia. For their parents, it provides hope.

Ohio 4H Celebration of Youth

The mission of the Ohio 4-H Foundation is to raise money to enhance the 4-H youth development program and to recognize 4-H youth and the adult volunteers that offer their time and talents to support them.

Through fundraising events such as the annual Celebration of Youth, the Ohio 4-H Foundation is able to raise nearly $1.1 million annually to benefit the Ohio 4-H Youth Development Program. Gifts to the 4-H program support teen and adult leadership education, volunteer programs, member recognition, project clinics, camps, counselor training, teen leader clubs, both livestock and non-livestock events and much more.

The Ohio 4-H Foundation is guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees, comprised of business and industry leaders, Extension personnel, and 4-H youth representatives from around the state.

Victory Ministries

Since 1983, Victory Ministries has served as a Christ-centered Ministry to the needy of central Ohio for the purpose of bringing critical emergency services to some of our poorest neighborhoods. Tens of thousands have been helped physically, spiritually, and emotionally through the Victory Mission Food Pantry, Free Clothing Store, and Family Assistance Center. Their Vision is to mobilize the Body of Christ to respond to the critical needs of the poor by helping individuals break the cycle of poverty, addiction, or abuse in their lives. This includes: introducing individuals to Christ and/or helping them grow in their relationship with Christ while providing tools necessary to gain greater self-sufficiency and independence.

Their Mission is to break poverty’s cycle by addressing the physical, educational, emotional and spiritual needs of “economically disadvantaged” families in central Ohio. Their process: To deliver critical services to the needy of the central Ohio community by strategically merging emergency assistance, next step services and training initiatives.

The Columbus Crew Foundation

The Columbus Crew Foundation is changing young lives in our community through these core areas of focus – soccer field development, providing funding and grants for underserved leagues and clubs, providing MLS experiences for challenged youth and supporting coach, player and referee development in underserved communities.

The Kicks for Kids program gives inner-city kids, honor students and other deserving young people an unforgettable experience in the nation's first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer – one-of-a-kind MAPFRE Stadium! The Crew SC Foundation’s Heroes League is a unique initiative focused on offering soccer and life skills instruction for children ages 6-9.  The free league runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during the month of July and part of August and is open to children in the Linden, Near East and neighborhoods adjacent to MAPFRE Stadium.  Each child who participates in the league is provided with a uniform, shin guards and a ball. Finally, the Crew SC Foundation’s Referee Scholarship Program assists youngsters ages 14 to 18 who have the desire but not the means to obtain referee training, certification and a uniform.

First Tee of Central Ohio

The goal of First Tee is to enhance and enrich the lives of our children by using the game of golf as a medium to teach our children a variety of life skills, core values and healthy habits. Children ages 6-18 can join! Special emphasis is placed on those who may not be able to play due to financial circumstances. Their program works with all families who are interested in this opportunity by providing financial assistance and equipment. Members have access to sign up for the First Tee Life Skills programming and will have the opportunity to utilize the learning center and golf course.

Wyatt Adkins Heart Organization

The Wyatt Adkins Heart Organization (WHAO) a 501©3, non-profit organization, was formed in January of 2010 to memorialize the short life of Wyatt Adkins, allowing his spirit to live on by giving to others, emphasizing family and celebrating community. WAHO was created to promote community by emphasizing kids first, family and fellowship.

The support from the local community, our vendors and partners, and even the Heartland Bank family has contributed to the success of this annual event. Call Heartland Bank today “fore” an appointment with one of our local community banking experts and we’ll help you get the “ball” rolling. Swing into Heartland, the bank that never needs mulligan.
